Sparkplugs (4-5 year olds)

The Sparkplugs class (4-5 year olds) meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 9:00 until 12:00. In January, an optional Wednesday enrichment program begins at 12:00 that lasts an additional two hours.

Sparkplugs usually participate in a monthly field trip, ranging from an excursion to the pumpkin patch, to a puppet play performance, to a visit to the Children's Museum.

The Sparkplugs class builds on elements of the Rookies and Racers classes. Hands-on activities are emphasized, and the Sparkplugs have two circle times per day. During the first, children do the calendar and weather report, plus choose helpers for the day. Songs and activities are engaged in, and the topic of the day is discussed. The second circle time includes a story and often a group activity, such as a bean bag toss game.

Sparkplugs have ample time to exercise their large motor skills in the "big muscle" room and outside on the playground.

Besides learning how to play cooperatively, Sparkplugs learn pre-Kindergarten skills with interactions and play with peers and adults.
